De-alcoholized vs Virgin Wine Style (Alcohol-Free)

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?

De-alcoholized

Wine that has been de-alcoholized has undergone the standard winemaking process, including fermentation, but has had all the alcohol removed from it. This is, in essence, alcohol-removed wine.

Virgin Wine Style

Virgin Wine Style (Alcohol Free) wine has not been through the standard wine-making process. These types of wine have never fermented and have never contained alcohol.

The Various

De-Alcoholization Process

Several de-alcoholization processes are available to obtain 0.0% ABV. Generally, the most common methods include reverse osmosis or cold filtration, vacuum extraction, and spinning columns. Different wineries use different methods to achieve 0.0% ABV.

Reverse Osmosis (Cold Filtration)

Reverse Osmosis is the most common method of de-alcoholization. The method eliminates alcohol from wine without using any heat. It is done at a low temperature, usually below 55 degrees Fahrenheit so that the wine retains all of its natural flavors.

By reverse osmosis, the wine flows from the base tank along a membrane rather than through it. Al mesh-like membrane surrounds cylinders that separate the wine into a syrupy mix of alcohol and water. After repeating the cycle 10-20 times, the water is reintroduced to the concentrate to form the finished product.

This results in an alcohol-free wine with cool mouthfeel and a taste that most wine connoisseurs love.

Vacuum Extraction

To ensure the high quality of the finished product, the vacuum method uses one of the most modern and efficient methods available. Since alcohol vaporizes at a lower temperature than other liquids, it would be necessary to boil wine at high temperatures to steam off the alcohol, thus damaging the delicate flavors.

However, vaporization of alcohol occurs in a vacuum at much lower temperatures. With the vacuum method of getting 0.0% ABV wines, the wines loses it alcohol but retains its characteristics and flavors, which would otherwise be lost during normal boiling.

Spinning Cone Column

With the Spinning Cone Column, the objective is to retain the original nature and quality of the wine. Possibly, certain aromatic compounds can be captured and reintroduced at a later stage of production, or perhaps the alcohol content in wine can be completely removed.

By spinning cones within the column, the liquid is physically spread into a thin film, increasing efficiency even more. No other method of lowering the alcoholic content of wines offers so many benefits; eliminating damage and preserving aromas, flavours, balance, and texture.

All Products 0.0% ABV

ALWAYS & FOREVER

Different wineries use different methods to achieve a wine that has a 0.0% ABV. All wines are typically aged for months in either stainless steel vats or oak barrels. During aging, the flavors intensify, giving the wine a smoother texture and enhancing the varietal aromas.

To ensure high standards and quality, the entire process is closely monitored. All products are 0.0% ABV so that those who don't drink alcohol for a variety of reasons can now enjoy our products while keeping a clear conscience.
