To feel more included without worrying about drinking alcohol, you may have considered trying non-alcoholic wine. But even if you want to experience wine without alcohol, you still have some reservations. The most frequently asked question is first and foremost: Isn't non-alcoholic wine merely more costly grape juice? Contrary to popular belief, alcohol-free wine is much more than just fancy juice.
The processes used to produce non-alcoholic wine and grape juice differ most. As described, the process for making non-alcoholic wine is the same as for making alcoholic wine, with the addition of removing the alcohol. Contrarily, grape juice is simply the unfermented juice of grapes. While they both originate from grapes and may have a similar flavor, there is still a considerable difference in their flavor profiles, especially considering how they are produced.
Wine made without alcohol goes through almost the same steps as wine made with alcohol, starting out looking very much like juice. A vineyard's grapes are picked either manually or mechanically. The kind of grapes used and the harvest time influence a wine's intended flavor profile.
The procedure of destemming and mechanical press crushing follows the selection of the grapes for the wine or juice. The grapes may be immediately crushed to separate the juice from the skins, seeds, and sediments or slowly pressed to keep the grapes in touch with their skins, depending on the type of wine or juice. This separates a white wine from a bottle of red wine. The non-alcoholic wine and juice now contain a lovely, recently squeezed liquid of grape juice.
Grape juice, on the other hand, does not go through the fermentation process. Instead, to stop fermentation, the grapes are pasteurized. Non-alcoholic wine undergoes the entire fermentation process and a maturing phase comparable to conventional alcoholic wine. The wines' tastes are enhanced by this aging, which may also impact their quality and overall flavor. Grape juice is finished by adding additional ingredients and bottling while non-alcoholic wine ages.
